Practice Point #52 - Balancing Posture & Flexible Bodies
/I received a question from Filipa from Portugal. Their question is...
Why is balancing asana particularly difficult for flexible bodies?
From my observations teaching, from the experience in my own body, and from working closely with a team of teachers with very different body types I think I have a clue as to why this is.
What I observe is that people who are stiff, bound, and generally more muscular find balancing posture easier than people who are flexible and loose.
Balance requires the body to be contained and gathered, something that is very difficult for a loose flexible body to do.
If the joints are loose, they move around a lot, and stability is hard to achieve and essential to balance.
I hope this helps shine the light on this topic.
